Kelley Day just won Best National Costume at the Miss Eco International stage with her modern Maria Clara costume.
Philippine bet Kelley Day wowed the judges of the Miss Eco International pageant as she just recently bagged the Best National Costume award with her Filipiniana costume.
On Instagram, Kelley flaunted her award-winning gown as designed by Filipino designer Louis Pangilinan and said, “It was such an honor to wear this beautiful creation in the National Costume Competition of Miss Eco International.
“Winning “Best National Costume” tonight just made me feel even more proud to be representing the Philippines.”
She continued, “Thankful for all the hard work and creativity of the team that was behind this. Thank you Miss Eco International for the recognition -- this is for the Philippines.”
On his personal Instagram page, Louis Pangilinan said that the national costume was his modern take to the classic Filipiniana terno that is embedded in the country's rich culture and history.
He said, “With the country's rich culture and history, the iconic attire of Philippines' mestiza heroine named Maria Clara meets the modern age. It's a perfect spotlight for this traditional attire to be of style and fashion - the evidence of religiosity and spirituality of Filipinos into a Filipiniana Costume.”
The national dress is embellished with hand-painted art and is fully hand-embroidered. The bell sleeves are premeditated with beads and crystals and are then accentuated with tassels made from fibers that were extracted by hand and woven together to make a one-of-a-kind creation.
“Summing up the fear of being outdated, the touch of modernity on this Maria Clara national attire still implies purity, innocence, and devout - words that define a Modern Filipina,” concluded the designer.
Kelley Day is currently in Egypt to compete for the Miss Eco International crown. The grand finals will be held on Easter Sunday, April 4.
